Basketball is a team sport that can be enjoyed throughout one’s life. It can be played in various forms; one on one, in small groups (often 3 x 3), or on organized teams. Many people enjoy shooting by themselves and watching the basketball swish through the net over and over again.
Properly taught, playing basketball is a great way to learn discipline, responsibility, confidence, and teamwork. Boys need challenges that are difficult to master and basketball is full of them. There are many complicated dribbles, passes, and one on one moves that require hours to learn. Even the best NBA players never cease to work on their finishes around the rim, their mid-range shots, and the long distance three-point shots that have taken over modern basketball.
Girls often benefit from being on a basketball team and learning not to internalize a defeat but to instead focus on preparing for the next game. Almost all athletes will say that learning to persevere through difficulties in their sport, whether injuries or losses, helped them later in life in school, work, and family situations.

But what about studying? Does basketball, or any sport, help improve one’s ability to study and learn?
The surprising answer is that sports, games, and play are actually vital to healthy development in boys! Prominent psychologist Jordan Peterson has said that in order to properly develop their mental capabilities young boys should “play until they’re exhausted.”
There have been studies that show that exercise increases blood flow to the brain and helps the body build more connections between nerves. Physical exercise releases proteins in the brain that help improve memory and increase cognitive performance. It can be said that exercise, or playing sports, helps your brain grow and makes it work better.

If you’re heading out for a run or even lifting weights in the gym, try listening to study notes, recorded lectures, videos, or podcasts.You can even record yourself speaking your most important notes to make it relevant and interesting.
Read your notes while you do light activities such as walking on a treadmill. Or spread your notes out on your desk and do squats or wall sits as you read. These two options get the blood flowing while you’re studying.
