　　A patriotic Chinese action film whose tagline is “whoever offends China will be hunted down wherever they are” is poised to become the country’s highest grossing film to date.

　　Wolf Warrior 2, which depicts a former elite People’s Liberation Army soldier defending Chinese citizens in Africa against bloodthirsty American-led mercenaries, grossed $161m at the weekend.

Wishful thinking would have it that China only wants recognition for its true role and a place at the table, a place that includes hegemony over adjacent territories like South China Sea. 　　Chinese box office records are broken multiple times every year, in accordance with the standard economic theory on luxury goods with high income elasticity.

　　In the name of the people was a genuine blockbuster, perhaps the most popular TV show since wo Ju which aired a decade ago, which was also about a corrupt official. 　　@Stewie @Ric Me too; I would probably watch it just for the fun of it - but that does not make it newsworthy on the FT unless you want to give a flawed, biased subliminal message that China is "increasingly assertive" in terms of foreign policy with such movies.

　　And the reality of Dunkirk is that the Brits took a a heavy pounding from the Germans - the only thing that stopped it from being a total wipeout was Hitler's admiration for the UK as well as his naive expectation that they would join Germany in the end; this is why they were able to cross the channel in large numbers.

　　Na?veté was one of Hitler's overlooked characteristics. To say he had great military foresight is naive, inexperience of the English language or whitewashing. A charismatic dictator rebuilt the economy through militarisation after smashing internal opposition. He then destroyed neighbours with whom he had no quarrel other than a thirst for resources and an asset-grab. Ladle on a sense of victimhood and revenge and you then have Hitler's great foresight. So farsighted his 'empire' lasted less than a generation but destroyed a generation from the Urals to the Atlantic. Wonder if we can learn from this farsighted militarism? He also did amazing things with trains, too.
